Maccabi Bazan Haifa, the 2013-14 Israeli League runner-up, announced today that they have exercised the second year option in the contract of guard/forward Ben Reis for the 2014-15 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Reis, 24, appeared in 28 Israeli League regular season games (9 starts) last season and averaged 8.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 19.3 minutes while shooting 41.5 percent (7th in the league) from three-point range. In Eurocup competition, Reis appeared in 16 games (5 starts), posting averages of 4.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in 16.7 minutes while shooting 42.3 percent from beyond the arc.
The 6-foot-5 guard/forward was one of two players to appear in all of Haifa’s 56 games amongst all competitions this past season. Reis set a new career-high in VAL (34) on January 12 in the 15th round of the Israeli League against his former team Bnei Herzliya, after tallying 25 points on 8-of-12 (67%) shooting from the field, while pulling down 6 rebounds in 29 minutes.
“I’m excited for another great season with Maccabi Haifa and am looking forward to playing for coach Rami Hadar,” said Reis. “We have the best fans in Israeli basketball and playing in Romema gives us a huge home court advantage.”
“Ben Reis is a rising Israeli talent, who made great strides last year to becoming a consistent threat in our league,” said Maccabi Bazan Haifa owner Jeff Rosen. “Ben immediately connected with our fanbase because of his sensational personality and work ethic. We’re very proud to have him wear the Green uniform again this season.”
“Ben is a very talented and versatile player who has the right attitude,” said Maccabi Bazan Haifa head coach Rami Hadar. “He will have an important role in our upcoming season.”
Prior to Haifa, Reis spent four seasons with Bnei Herzliya, appearing in 98 games.
