Maccabi Hunter Haifa, the 2016-17 Israeli Super League runner-up, announced today that they have signed power forward/center Reggie Buckner through the 2017-18 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Reggie is a talented big guy who will help us in the paint,” said Maccabi Hunter Haifa head coach Offer Rahimi. “We believe he’ll continue to improve in his third season in Israel.”
Buckner, 26, returns to Haifa after appearing in 30 regular season games (four starts) for the Greens during the 2015-16 season where he posted averages of 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per game.
The 6-foot-9 power forward/center played in 33 regular season games (30 starts) for Hapoel Eilat during the 2016-17 season and averaged 10.2 points on a league-leading 66.7 percent (130-195) shooting from two-point range while snaring 6.2 rebounds per game. He led the league in dunks (1.6) and was second in the league blocks (1.4).
During this past summer, Buckner helped guide Cariduros de Fajardo in Puerto Rico to a BSN Finals appearance, while averaging 13.7 points and 7.6 rebounds along with 1.1 blocks in 24.8 minutes over 20 games. He signed with Salta Basket in Argentina’s top division for the 2017-18 season, playing in Eight games while averaging 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game.
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Buckner played his collegiate career at Ole Miss from 2009-13, and finished his career as the all-time blocked shot leader. During his senior season, Buckner notched 9.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 2.7 blocks in 35 games.
