Maccabi Hunter Haifa, the 2016-17 Israeli Basketball Super League runner-up, announced today that they have signed guards, Gal Zabek and Tomer Asayag, to 3-year contracts and center Shalev Har-Even to a two-year contract. Young talent, Gal Baruch, who signed last season for three years, continue for his second season with the Greens.
“I am happy with the strong connection between Maccabi Haifa’s youth department and our team with the signings of Tomer and Shalev, who are both talented players and will continue to improve,” Maccabi Hunter Haifa head coach Offer Rahimi said. “The signing of Gal Zabek was made possible thanks to our cooperation with the Hapoel Tivon youth department. We are looking forward to having Gal on our team for the next several years.”
Zabek (#6 6-2, 12/13/1998) will enter his first professional season and will be enlisted into the IDF during the season. A native of Nofit, Zabek played for the Hapoel Tivon youth department. At the age of 16-years-old, he started to play for the prestigious Leo-Baeck high-school basketball program in Haifa.
Asayag (#4, 6-1, 6/9/1999) has played for the Maccabi Haifa youth club for the past two seasons. A native of Kiryat Motzkin, Asayag practiced with Maccabi Hunter Haifa throughout parts of last season. This year will mark his first season on the professional team’s roster.
Har-Even (#5, 6-6, 1/1/1999) has played for the Maccabi Haifa youth department for the past four seasons. A native of Carmiel, Har-Even will continue to play for the youth team and will also be listed on the roster of Maccabi Hunter Haifa.
