Head Coach and Assistant Coach signed through 2018-19 season
The Maccabi Hunter Haifa Israeli professional basketball team today announced that they have extended the contracts of Head Coach Barak Peleg and Assistant Coach Tomer Shteinhaur through the 2018-19 season.
“Our goal is to get back to the Premier League. We are confident that Barak’s coaching experience and success in the Second Division, as well as Tomer’s strong commitment to the club, will lead us back to the top,” said Maccabi Hunter Haifa team owner, Jeff Rosen.
Peleg, 45, joined as Maccabi Hunter Haifa head coach with seven games remaining in the 2017-18 regular season and guided the team to a 4-3 record. Prior to Haifa, he spent three seasons as head coach of Maccabi Ra’anana of Israel’s Second Division, leading the team to an 18-8 record during the 2017-18 season. He was named 2016-17 Eurobasket.com National League Coach of the Year after guiding Macabbi Ra’anana to an 18-8 record and a first-place finish.
Prior to his tenure in Ra’anana, Peleg served as head coach of Gilboa/Galil for 22 games during the 2014-15 season. He spent four seasons as an assistant coach of Gilboa/Galil, where he helped guide the team to back-to-back Balkan League championships. Over the course of 14 seasons in the Israel Premier League, Peleg appeared in 326 regular season contests as a small forward, where he totaled 2,876 career points.
Shteinhaur, 51, has served as an assistant coach for Maccabi Hunter Haifa for the past two seasons. As one of Maccabi Hunter Haifa’s best players, Shteinhaur is 8th all-time in franchise history in points scored (1,514) and 14th all-time in the Israeli Premier League with 5,253 career points scored.
