Maccabi hosted Hapoel Tel Aviv on Sunday at Romema and suffered an 87-77 loss. The Reds opened up an early double-digit gap and despite the Greens’ comeback attempts, Hapoel managed to maintain the advantage until the end – avoiding a season sweep. Trevor Gaskins finished as the Greens’ leading scorer with 19 points and sparked an impressive 15-0 run by Maccabi at the beginning of the third quarter. But 20 turnovers by the Greens limited their ability to overcome the deficit.
State of Affairs
After the loss to Hapoel Tel Aviv, Offer Rahimi announced his resignation as head coach of Maccabi Hunter Haifa after eight years a member of the Greens’ coaching staff. Maccabi is currently in last place in the Winner League standings – two games out of the loss column from Irony Nahariya (9-16), which is in 11th place. Brandon Bowman will play against Hapoel Jerusalem, while Trahson Burrell will not be registered for the contest.
“We are making great efforts to recover and get ready for a very important game for the club, against a strong, well-coached team. Our focus is only towards tomorrow’s game,” said Nati Cohen.
With 8 games remaining in the regular season, Maccabi understands the sense of urgency to end the skid. After Wednesday’s contest, Maccabi will fly to Eilat for a game against Hapoel Eilat on Sunday, April 29th. The game of the Greens’ season will be on Friday, May 4th at 4:00 pm, when Maccabi host Irony Nahariya at Romema at 6:55 pm in Round 28 of the Winner League. There Greens will have a quick turnaround as they will hit the road to face Rishon Lezion on Monday, May 6 at 7:40 pm.
