The Maccabi Hunter Haifa professional basketball team and Elad Shavit, a clinical dietitian and sports nutritionist from the Wingate Academic College and owner of the Shavit Center for Health, Sports and a Healthy Lifestyle, today announced a multi-year partnership where the Shavit Center will provide an athletic nutrition program to enhance the team’s training program.
As part of the partnership, the Shavit Center will begin closely monitoring the players’ diet. Each Maccabi player will receive a customized nutritional program that includes healthy supplements, control of food intake, preparation for games and practices, and bi-weekly examinations of the players’ body composition indexes.
“Professional athletes are unique in that they need nutritional support throughout the year. Proper nutrition is essential in preparation for training and games, as well as for recovery,” said Elad Shavit, Owner, Shavit Center. “When building a nutritional program, players take into account the amount, load and frequency of training. In addition, the players’ medical condition, eating habits and the stage in which he is in-season must be considered. These factors determine nutritional goals in order to achieve training and exercise at an optimal physical condition in terms of fitness and nutrition.”
“We are proud to continue to upgrade the team’s training system,” said Assaf Rozenblatt, CEO, Maccabi Hunter Haifa. “I am convinced that the nutritional monitoring and guidance of the Shavit Center will help each player on the team to reach the planned goals by the professional staff.”
