Coming off a disappointing loss at Herzliya last week, Maccabi Hunter Haifa (6-14) will look to turn their fortunes around as they step on the court against Hapoel Gilboa/Galil (9-11) on Monday night at Romema. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

The Reds come into the game after three straight losses. The Greens from the Carmel have entered “must win” territory if they are going to dig their way out of the bottom of the standings and into playoff contention.

Last Game

Maccabi faced Bnei Herzliya at Hyuvel Hall last week and suffered a painful loss, 79-75, after a comeback in the fourth quarter by the Blues.

The Greens dominated the game for nearly three quarters and led by a double-digit gap most of the evening. But in the final minutes, when it counted most, the Maccabi couldn’t land the big shots. Trevor Gaskins, once again, finished as the leading scorer for the Greens (19 points, 3/7 from 3PT, 6-8 from the line) and was responsible for three of Maccabi’s four three-pointers in the game.

Two other Green players scored over 10 points; Rodriguez tallied 13 points (7 rebounds, 4 assists) and Blayzer notched 12 points (10 rebounds).

Captain quote

Oz Blayzer: “We worked hard this week on making corrections from last game. It is clear to us that this game (against Gilboa/Galil) must be taken because we are approaching the third round.

We all understand that this is not an easy time for the club, so we need the extra push from our Green fans as much as possible on Monday.”

Gilboa/Galil Scouting Report

In the last round, the Reds traveled to the capital to play against Hapoel Jerusalem, falling 92-84. Gilboa/Galil started the game poorly and paid a heavy price for it.  DeAngelo Harrison buried five 3-pointers — including one that swayed the momentum for Gilboa, but ultimately the team ran out of steam down the stretch.

Zach LeDay registered another impressive double-double (22 points and 11 rebounds) before fouling out in the final minute. LeDay is in the midst of a stellar rookie season, averaging 16.6 points (50.0% from 2PT) and 7.8 rebounds in 29.8 minutes through 20 games.

The last time the Greens hosted Gilboa/Galil, Maccabi suffered a 83-78 loss on October 30, 2016. Blayzer finished that game with 9 points and 7 rebounds.
